When we do not have the courage to be true to ourselves, can we be truly happy? When we do not have the courage to speak the truth, about what we are really thinking or feeling, can we be truly happy? If we do not have the courage to do that which we truly desire or see the need to, can we truly be happy? If we do not dare to be ourselves, can we be truly happy? If happiness is not true, but false or pretentious or compromised, is that happiness? If we can't be truly happy ourselves, can we raise our children to be truly happy? Now ask, is that too the fate of your children? As we grow, that courage, of the most important sort, is raised right out of us. Despite fear as a mechanism to keep us safe from dangers of the environment in our childhood, we are born with true courage, to be honest with ourselves and to be ourselves. They are uninhibited about asking for what they want and for seeking it. ![]() They are generous with their smiles and unashamed to laugh. Look at your own children or the children around you if there are any. Are we truly brave though, collectively, as a human society? When we were children, we expressed ourselves freely. As we grew, the fears against heat, animals, strangers and countless other things diminished, rendering us brave. When we were born, fear was a defence mechanism that we were endowed with by nature, that kept us safe from danger. ![]() Those of you who've got your hands up, ask yourselves this If your child came up to you and shared the ambition that he or she wants to be happy when he or she grows up, will you be able to support that ambition? Before you answer this question, ask yourself another two.ĭo you know what happiness is? Are you happy? Raise your hands, those of you who have young children or are expecting to have children soon. They told him apparently that he did not understand the assignment to which he replied that they did not understand life. ![]() You may have heard of John Lennon's quote that circulates extensively on the social networks these days, wherein he mentions about him being asked at school what he wanted to be when he grew up, to which his response was happy.
